OT is my third (!) career, and by far the most fulfilling. I earned my MSOT in Dec 2016, and live in Spruce Pine NC with my incredibly supportive hubby and 6 furry friends.

OTR working with adults with IDD; Miri Lee fan girl

I discovered OT after wrist surgery lead me to a hand therapist. I don't imagine everyone going to hand therapy has this experience, but walking in I felt as if this large clinic of therapists (who also all happened to be artists who were familiar with the arts org I then worked for) was a community of interesting, like-minded souls that knew a secret that they were just now letting me in on. How had I never heard of this holistic profession whose aim was to help others to regain health & function through performing valued daily activities? With a lot of excitement, and not a little trepidation about going back to school in my 40's, I began the long process of taking 2 years of prerequisites, researching OT schools and funding, and ultimately moved away from my home and family for 2.5 long years for a grad school 300 miles away. I finally moved back home after fieldwork, and began my first job in February 2017, coincidentally working primarily as... a hand therapist!
